Big, soft, and not the other floppy cat
Ragamuffins weigh about 10 to 20 pounds and often live 12 to 16 years. They are calm, friendly, and moderately active. The coat is plush and medium-long. People who wanted a Ragdoll and bought a Ragamuffin, or the reverse, often still have a nice cat and a confused pedigree. Know which one is on the papers if papers matter to you.
They are usually excellent with children and decent with other pets. They like to be in the room. They are a poor choice for a household that wants a cat to patrol the barn and ignore people. Weight climbs easily on a calm cat. Measure the food.
Heart and kidneys, without the Ragdoll script
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the screening question, as it is in many large breeds. Do not assume a Ragamuffin has every Ragdoll disease, and do not assume it has none. A yearly listen to the heart and a look at the kidneys as the cat ages is the practical plan. VCA explains HCM. Fast breathing at rest is an emergency. Is a Ragamuffin a Ragdoll?
No. Ragdolls are a separate breed with their own registry rules and a colorpoint pattern. Ragamuffins come in more colors and have a different history. A seller who uses the names interchangeably is a reason to slow down.
Do they go limp when held?
Some are relaxed. That is not anesthesia, and it is not true of every cat. Support the body. A large cat dropped because it 'flops' is how you buy a sprain.
How much grooming?
A few sessions a week with a comb that reaches the skin, more when the coat blows. They mat less than a Persian and more than a short-haired cat. Skip a month and you own a pelt.
