Thirteen pounds of full-time work
Jack Russell terriers are about 10 to 15 inches and 13 to 17 pounds, often living 13 to 16 years. They are fearless, loud, and clever. Other dogs are a project because many Russells start fights they cannot finish. Children need to be old enough not to treat a terrier like a wind-up toy. Prey drive means the hamster, the cat, and the squirrel are not friends by default.
Exercise is one to two hours and a job: earthdog, agility, or a flirt pole used with rules. A walk to the mailbox is an insult. They dig out of fences. Hardware cloth along the bottom is part of the yard.
